Most modern non-permanent fillers are made of Hyaluronic Acid and light reflective ingredients – a naturally occurring substance developed in our own bodies. This helps hydrate and add volume to your skin. As you age, the natural replacement of Hyaluronic Acid is reduced and therefore the moisturising and plumping effects decrease, which is when fine lines and wrinkles start to appear. Dermal fillers are used under the eyes to increase volume and to reduce any darkening and hollowness.

How does it work?
The product is placed just beneath the skin’s surface to recreate volume and tackle your skin’s contour deficiencies. The Hyaluronic Acid then supports you’re skins layers which have previously been reduced. The treatment time is usually between 30 minutes, but may be up to one hour if a topical anaesthetic is applied.
Juvéderm® fillers are made of Hyaluronic Acid (HA), a substance naturally occurring in our bodies, we also use Teosyal Redensity II which combines both Hyaluronic acid and 14 essential nutrients which have light reflecting properties. Hyaluronic Acid is our natural hydrator; the more we have, the healthier our skin is. When we’re born, we have huge stocks of Hyaluronic Acid in our skin, providing the structure and support to keep young skin plump. As we age, the levels decrease meaning that skin is less supported, allowing lines and wrinkles to develop and volume loss to occur. Juvéderm® and Teosyal Redensity II fillers are injected below the skin surface to add subtle volume. The key to natural-looking results is restoring the amount of Hyaluronic Acid you previously had in the area under the eyes.
Will it work for my skin type?
This treatment can be performed on all skin types, determining your suitability will happen in your consultation with your medical injector.
Why should I have this treatment?
- Reduces shadowing under the eyes
- Restores skins natural hydration levels
- Plumps finer lines making them less visible
- Minimises deeper/dark hollows under eye area
- Reduces the folds under the eye area
What results can I expect?
You will notice a visible difference immediately after your treatment. Often, there can be some mild swelling which will subside after a few days to a week. The results of the treatment last between 6 and 18 months depending on the individual. A further treatment may be needed 4 -12 weeks after the first, which will be discussed with you upon consultation.
Please don’t drink any alcohol during the 24 hours before your treatment. We also advise that you avoid using aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs a couple of days before your treatment (unless they are taken for a chronic medical condition). Avoiding these medications will reduce your risk of bruising at the point of injection. Ask your medical injector if you have any concerns.

How many treatments will I need?
Often when the tear trough area is treated it is treated in one appointment. To maintain your results, a follow up treatment will be needed approximately 6 – 18 months depending on your skin. Sometimes a second treatment may be needed, this will be discussed upon consultation with you, depending on your concern.
You can have Tear Trough treatment and continue with your day to day activities. However, we do advise you avoid wearing makeup, except for Youngblood mineral make up, which we can apply in clinic after your treatment.
We also recommend that you do not go to the gym, sauna’s, steam-rooms or swimming on the same day as treatment; and avoid touching the injection site.
Q: How much downtime is there after treatments?
A: With any injectable treatment, there is a small risk of bruising, bleeding and swelling. You can get back to work on the same day, but we do advise that you don’t apply makeup for 12 hours unless it is mineral-powder based. You also shouldn’t use a perfumed moisturiser. Please don’t go to the gym on the same day or touch the injection site to avoid infection. For any other concerns after the treatment, simply contact your medical injector.
Q: How do I know if I am suitable
A: Juvéderm® and Teosyal dermal fillers are ideal for those looking to improve the eye area by adding volume. You shouldn’t have dermal filler injections if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding because the effects on the baby aren’t known.
Q: Is the treatment safe?
A: Our medical injector team are highly skilled and experienced to perform the Tear Trough treatment on delicate areas like the eyes. We also may use the use of canulars, which reduce any risks greatly. All our medical injectors are registered with their respective governing and regulatory bodies, which include the NMC, GMC and GDC .
There are very few risks with dermal fillers as these are semi-permanent. Although extremely rare, if we need to reverse the results of a filler, we can use injections to counteract the effect and reverse the process.
We only use internationally recognised suppliers who rigorously test their products. Juvéderm® and Teosyal are approved by the FDA and provide certified medical devices for use as dermal fillers. They carry the European CE mark.
The medical injector will carry out the consultation, deliver your treatment and manage your follow-up care at DestinationSkin. They will also be able to answer any questions you may have.
Q: What happens during the treatment?
A: Your treatment will take place in one of our private treatment rooms. The practitioner will cleanse the area first and then perform the treatment. Procedures typically take around 30 minutes.
Q: What does the treatment feel like?
A: The injections are relatively painless because they contain lidocaine, a local anaesthetic. A topical numbing cream can also be applied if needed, the use of canulars will mean the treatment is even more comfortable to experience.
Q: What happens after the treatment?
A: You can get back to work on the same day but we do advise you to avoid wearing makeup (except for mineral make up), going to the gym on the same day, or touching the treated area. This is to minimise the risk of infection.
