What is Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is one way to deeply exfoliate the skin. It is the process of exfoliating and lifting away dead skin cells using ultra-fine crystals emitted from a vacuum-like wand. The crystals themselves are of medical-grade Aluminium Oxide, which is perfect for gently restoring your skin’s natural glow and leaves your skin feeling silky smooth.
During a Microdermabrasion treatment, you can expect your practitioner to expertly cleanse and prep your skin. Once prepped, they will then go on to apply the crystals to your skin using a hand held device.
This vacuum-like device gently buffs the crystals evenly around your skin and whilst the crystals start exfoliating the skin, the vacuum action will stimulate the underlying epidermis to promote new Collagen production and increase blood flow to the surface.
After this, your practitioner will then apply a nourishing mask and serums which complement the Microdermabrasion treatment and will leave your skin feeling amazing. Your practitioner will finish by applying an always essential: SPF.
What does Microdermabrasion do for your skin?
Microdermabrasion is also a great introductory treatment to a world of advanced skincare solutions and can achieve impressive results combined with other treatments. It complements a range of treatments and works well with Skin Peels, Intense Pulsed Light treatments, EDS, Dermaroller and Collagen boosters. It is also an effective treatment to have in-between other treatments and can enhance the final outcome of them. Either way, Microdermabrasion will always leave your skin feeling intensely nourished and refreshed.
Another benefit of Microdermabrasion is that you can see the results instantly! It is a super quick and easy treatment to perform with no recovery time either so you can look amazing immediately.
It can be used regularly as part of your skincare routine, or as a one off to give your skin a quick boost and burst of radiance before a special event or occasion. It’s a hassle-free, flexible option suitable for every lifestyle.
What areas of my body can be treated with Microdermabrasion?
It can be performed on most areas of the body, most popularly on the face and back, and works to leave your skin in its best condition: super fresh, soft and brighter. The back is a common area to get Microdermabrasion as it is not usually looked after as well as other parts of the body, leading to an excess build-up of dead skin cells.
Other hard to reach areas can suffer in this way too, leaving your skin looking duller than usual. Microdermabrasion can easily target any awkward areas and can lift and brighten your skin for lasting results.

What results can I expect from Microdermabrasion?
After your Microdermabrasion treatment, you will see your youthful and fresher complexion instantly, where your freshly exfoliated and hydrated skin will beam from its regeneration.
It is not uncommon for your skin to look a little flushed just after the treatment as this is due to the stimulated production of Collagen, which increases blood flow to the surface of the skin. This should subside soon after the treatment.
You can expect immediate results, where you’ll be able to feel a difference to your skin and notice your restored, brighter complexion.
How do I prepare for Microdermabrasion?
Prior to your Microdermabrasion treatment, you should get as little sun exposure as possible and not apply any fake tan as this can comprise the treatment’s effectiveness. You should inform your practitioner before your treatment if you have exposed your skin to the sun or have applied fake tan and they will advise you on the next steps.
We also recommend you avoid using any Retinol, Glycolic or Salicylic Acid products products for 1-2 weeks before your treatment too.
How many Microdermabrasion treatments will I need?
The number of treatments you will need depends on your skin concern and it’s severity. Usually minor conditions need fewer treatments and larger issues need repeated treatments, yet this will be formally confirmed during your consultation.
Microdermabrasion is a great introductory treatment for many skin concerns, especially treating dull and tired skin. We typically recommend a course of 3-6 treatments to achieve maximum results and may recommend other treatments that will enhance and compliment your skin further. Yet, it all depends on you and your skin.
After this treatment, we always recommend that you use the Agera Microderma System, which contains small Vitamin C crystals and infuses Lactic Acid to gently exfoliate and brighten the skin. By using additional products after the treatment, it will help you maintain the results for longer and enhance the skin’s condition.
