Laser Hair Removal is an effective method of combating excessive hair growth, sculpting facial hair and achieving permanent hair removal. As men typically grow hair heavily and across large areas of the body, laser hair removal can help to remove unwanted hair – even in those hard to reach areas.
What is laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal is a professional form of body hair removal. It works using a combination of both light and heat energy to absorb pigment in the hair follicles and destroy them – lastingly changing how the hair grows in that area. Long term hair removal is achieved through the knowledge of hair growth patterns and use of clinically safe, hand-held laser devices that can emit long and short wavelengths of almost infrared light. These wavelengths can be adapted to reach the root of the hair in every individual – no matter the area, severity, or density.
How does laser hair removal work?
Laser hair removal works by using a mix of both light and heat energy to destroy the hair follicles and permanently alter the hair growing environment. We use advanced laser devices that emit short bursts of light that can penetrate both the epidermis and dermis layers of the skin.

Pre-treatment advice and aftercare
Before undergoing any laser hair removal, you’ll always have a consultation and complete a patch test to ensure there will be no adverse reactions when your skin is under the laser.
During your consultation, there will be an opportunity for you and your expert clinician to open a line of communication where you can express your expectations, concerns and identify the areas of unwanted body hair you wish to diminish. They will then provide you with all the information, your suitability for laser hair removal and all the do’s and don’ts before your first appointment. Here are some:
Please avoid shaving, or manually removing your hair in any way before the treatment. Keeping the desired area(s) as hairy as possible will ensure the hair will be most receptive to the laser and produce the most effective results. As the treatment works by targeting pigment, if there is no hair present, or no pigmentation the laser can detect, the treatment will not work. It should also be mentioned that blonde, red or grey hairs are not suitable for laser hair removal because of the same reason.
In the weeks before the treatment, please avoid using any skincare products on the desired treatment area(s) as this may cause irritations or reactions. This is often unlikely, however, to maintain the highest levels of safety, it is a necessary precaution to minimise any possibility of risk.
On the day, please be sure to come into the clinic pre-showered or bathed – omitting the use of fragranced soaps or perfumes. You can expect your treatment to last between 15 – 90 minutes, depending on areas and hair thickness.
Afterwards, your skin may be redder and more sensitive than usually and this is perfectly normal. Your practitioner will then create for you a unique pack of information, filled with advice and recommended products, like SPF and soothing topic arnica to help soothe, protect, and speed up the healing process.
In the days after your treatment, it is essential to avoid exposing the lasered skin to sun or submerging it in water for prolonged periods of time – so definitely don’t go swimming until the skin has fully healed!
In the following weeks after the treatment, you can expect the hairs to begin to fall out – this is known as the shedding process – this is a promising sign of flawless hair removal, where you will begin to see the full effect of your laser sessions. So enjoy!
