Dermaroller or eDermastamp (EDS) treatment is an established skin-needling procedure. It’s a way to rejuvenate your skin by kick-starting collagen production, which creates a healthier look. Dermaroller was first developed to target and reduce scarring; however, as the treatment also increases collagen and elastin in the skin, it’s great for anti-ageing and can be used to reduce stretchmarks.
How does Dermaroller/ Electronic DermaStamp work?
A small handheld roller or EDS head is gently rolled over the area of skin you want treated, whether it’s scarred, aged or affected by stretchmarks, to regenerate it. The treated skin responds by producing more natural collagen, which your skin needs to stay firm and regenerate scar tissue. New skin cells are also generated, which enhances the overall structure of your skin. It can take up to about six weeks until you start to see results, so this is a treatment to be patient with
But it’s worth it, as, not only do you get the benefits of new collagen (plump, youthful skin), these Dermaroller and Electronic DermaStamp treatments also make your skincare products more effective. How? The micro fine holes in your skin made during the course of your treatment allow the active ingredients in your skincare regime to penetrate your skin with ease, increasing their effectiveness. At DestinationSkin, we love combining skin-needling with DermaQuest Essential B5 Hydrating Serum.
The ‘bigger is better’ argument doesn’t stand with skin-needling. The devices we use, with their 1.5mm needles, achieve the same results that other rollers produce with longer, thicker needles. Don’t compromise on quality, safety or comfort. The needles we use are micro-fine to gently penetrate the uppermost layer of the skin.
We have recently started using a new electronic version of the dermaroller device. Its six needles are dropped into the skin at a rate of 80–150 times per second at a needle depth of 0.3mm to 1.5mm. This design provides a more comfortable treatment.
Will Dermaroller/ Electronic DermaStamp work for my skin type?
Anyone concerned with acne scarring or ageing is suitable, providing you aren’t pregnant, on photosensitive medication or have uncontrolled diabetes. If you have acute acne, we wouldn’t advise this treatment and would instead recommend an alternative to reduce your breakouts first, progressing you on to dermaroller or dermastamp to treat the remaining scarring/discolourations when your skin is ready.
Why should I have choose Dermaroller/ Electronic DermaStamp?
Acne often leaves behind unsightly scars. By stimulating vital collagen, DermaRoller helps to regenerate the damaged skin to smooth scars and even out skin tone.
As we age, our skin looses elasticity as collagen levels decline, leaving skin looking tired & lined. Skin-needling is proven to reduce lines & wrinkles, by stimulating collagen production. Almost all of our clients report that their skin looks fuller & texture is improved.
DermaRoller can also treat stretchmarks – new collagen production visibly reduces the appearance of body stretchmarks by smoothing torn fibres in the skins deeper layers.
What areas of my body can be treated?
The most common area to have this treatment is the face, including the neck area. However, this treatment can be performed on almost all body areas, including the stomach, chest and thighs, particularly if you are interested in reducing stretchmarks.
What results can I expect from Dermaroller/ Electronic DermaStamp?
The natural regeneration process takes up to six weeks but the results are well worth waiting for. The reason for this time is that the collagen is produced in the deeper layers of the skin, and your skin’s natural turnover process is needed for the new collagen enhanced skin to reach the surface.
Clients often notice the skin texture is improved around one week after treatment. For the treatment of scarring, multiple treatments are needed to increase the collagen whereby it restructures the skin.

How many treatments will I need?
For general anti-ageing, up to 3 sessions are needed consecutively, followed by maintenance of approximately 1 – 2 treatments per year. This is due to the natural process of the breakdown of collagen, by which the treatment will help the skin to continually produce new collagen.
For acne scarring, depending on the level of scarring, between 3 – 6 treatments are needed.
For stretchmarks, again depending on the severity of your marks, between 3 – 6 treatments are needed.
Your treatment options and plan will be discussed with you during your initial free consultation.
You must avoid sun exposure for 2 weeks after your treatment and use Heliocare SPF daily. We also advise you use the Genuine Dermaroller Masks to rehydrate your skin as the skin cells are renewing. You should use this 1-2 times in the few days following on from your treatment. Your skin might feel dryer after treatment, so we recommend that you use a B5 serum. Avoid saunas, steam rooms, swimming and the gym for up to 72 hours after treatment. Avoid using acid based products for up to 1 week after treatment. Mineral make-up can be applied 12 hours after the treatment has been performed.
Q: How will I feel after treatments?
A: Your skin will look flushed after this treatment and may feel tighter than normal. This will start to subside after one to two hours, with slight redness over the following couple of days. It’s important that you wear a broad-spectrum SPF 50+ product. We recommend SkinCeuticals Mineral Radiance Defence SPF 50. This will protect your skin during post-treatment. To speed up recovery time, we also recommend using the SkinCeuticals Redness Neutraliser in conjunction with a moisture-quenching hydrating serum.
Q: Is dermaroller treatment safe?
A: We only use the genuine, German-engineered dermaroller medical devices. They each carry the CE mark.
Q: Does dermaroller treatment hurt?
A: Our dermaroller treatment doesn’t hurt – we use numbing cream with all our skin-needling treatments to make the procedure more comfortable. The new eDermastamp is particularly gentle.
What our clients say
After my first EDS treatment I initially noticed an improvement on the soft lines around the mouth especially the upper lip. Also an area of concern, often discussed with my practitioner is around the eyes. Very few treatments were available to treat this concern other than Anti-wrinkle injections, until I had my EDS treatments which I was pleasantly surprised can be used so close to the eyes. Both myself and my Practitioner were amazed at the improvement around this area even though she was fully confident I would see an improvement. I feel that the products and treatments I had been recommended has drastically improved my skin over time to a very healthy level and the EDS treatment I found is an excellent treatment to maintain and further improve my skin’s health and concerns.
What our clients say
Upon my initial consultation my Practitioner advised me a course of peels to target my existing acne and the pigmentation left behind from years of having bad skin. The Practitioner devised my treatment plan with the view to lead up to Dermaroller treatments to target scarring once the acne was treated. I was nervous about this treatment as I had read online that it is painful. To my surprise it was virtually pain free. I have been really happy with the results of the treatments as of around 6 weeks after my first EDS. Although my Practitioner had advised that I would need at least x6 treatments for the best results, my skin has made amazing improvement just after 3 sessions. I was advised to use a Retinol product alongside the treatments to further enhance the results which has worked wonders. A very pleased customer and have recommended so many of my friends with similar concerns.
What our team say
I absolutely love this treatment! It can be used to treat multiple concerns and also be used as a tool to maintain healthy skin. The ability to manipulate the needle depth and speed of the EDS has made it possible to tailor the treatment to my client’s needs and concerns. Being able to treat so close to the eyes has helped to treat so many clients who have had to rely on solely products in the past. The feedback from clients has been great, it feels very satisfying when clients can share the same passion about a particular treatment which you rave about.
