This is an introductory peel with more active ingredients for those looking to target acne congestion and clogged skin. If you’re looking to go on to more advanced skin peels and making skin peels a regular part of your skincare routine, this is a good starter treatment before graduating to a more intense peel. The Pumpkin Resurfacer is formulated to reduce and prevent acne breakouts whilst also supporting cell turnover, which makes it ideal for acne-prone skin. It contains pumpkin enzymes, Glycolic Acid (AHA), Lactic acid (AHA) and Salicylic Acid (BHA).

How does a pumpkin peel work?PlusMinus

Every spot starts with a comedone. A comedone is a clogged hair follicle (pore) in the skin which can be open (blackhead) or covered over by skin (whitehead). The reason this peel is so effective at treating acne is because it tackles the causes of your acne at its origin. By starving the acne of its fuel, this peel removes comedones, deep-cleanses pores and provides an anti-bacterial action. The peel also increases cellular turnover, which prevents future breakouts from forming and stops what already appears on your skin in its tracks.

The key ingredients (Lactic, Glycolic and Salicylic Acids) deeply cleanse and dissolve tired skin cells whilst the pumpkin pulp strengthens collagen beneath the skin’s surface. Salicylic Acid penetrates the skin, pulling the debris out of the clogged pore. Acne is calmed, flare-ups are prevented and you’re put back in control of your skin.

Will it work for my skin type?PlusMinus

This is an introductory strength peel ideal for most skin types. It is important that your skin is in good health prior to this peel, so you might be advised to use homecare products to strengthen, hydrate and protect the skin barrier before starting your clear skin journey.

Why should I have this treatment?PlusMinus

You should choose a pumpkin peel if you suffer with acne and enlarged pores. As this peel uses a mix of pumpkin pulp, salicylic, glycolic and lactic acid to stimulate cell renewal, it instantly improves the texture of your skin, whilst the peel’s antibacterial effect targets active spots. Throughout treatment, your skin will become firmer, more hydrated and less congested, and you’ll notice a reduction in spot breakouts.

What results can I expect?PlusMinus

Once the peeling process has finished, your skin will feel smoother and brighter, and any acne will hbe reduced, leaving your skin looking healthy, less congested and hydrated.

How many treatments will I need?PlusMinus

The active ingredients in peels means that you will notice results after a single treatment. For optimal results, however, we recommend a course of six treatments: one treatment every two weeks. However, this all depends on the nature of skin concern that you’re experiencing.

AftercarePlusMinus

Aftercare advice and a great homecare kit is essential as they hold the key to maintaining your results at home. We always recommend a hydrating serum, such as DermaQuest’s B5 Hydrating Serum, to bring a supple look to the skin. We also advise using an advanced day and night routine such as the Obagi360 System Kit. It is important to start introducing everyday sun protection to protect your skin.

FAQsPlusMinus

Q: How much recovery time is there after treatments?
A: There are no long-term damaging effects to the skin from resurfacer treatments; however, you may experience some redness, dryness, flaking and peeling. Your practitioner will explain any potential recovery time with you before you start your treatment. They’ll also discuss the possibility of working up to stronger peels if you want to increase them gradually. Using the recommended preparatory products before treatment will also help minimise the dryness/peeling as they ensure your skin is ready and safe before treatment.

Q: Does this treatment hurt?
A: The sensation of skin peels varies from person to person. This is due to skin tolerance, skin condition, the severity of a skin complaint and the strength of the peel. The most common sensations experienced during skin peels are tingling, warmth and tightness. These are positive feelings to notice during your treatment, as they all mean the active ingredients are penetrating the lower layers of the skin and are getting to work effectively in those lower layers.

Q: How is a pumpkin peel different from other treatments?
A: As we are using a combination of acids (AHAs and BHAs), we are targeting many elements of the skin, which means we get a result at all levels.

Q: How regularly do I need to have treatment?
A: The active ingredients in skin peels mean that you will notice an instant brightening effect after a single treatment. For optimal results, we recommend a course of skin peels. Treatment intervals will depend on the strength of the peel, however your practitioner will advise you on the correct plan to ensure maximum results and get the best possible outcome for your skin.

Q: What happens during the treatment?
A: A skin peel starts with scanning your skin under a UV lamp and assessing your overall skin condition. This allows your practitioner to highlight any areas for improvement i.e. dehydration, sun damage, bacteria, oil production and congestion.

Your skin will then be cleansed, and a solution applied to prepare your skin for the peel’s ingredients, so the active ingredients can penetrate your lower skin layers effectively. The skin peel for your specific concern is then applied. The final steps include aftercare products being applied, such as serums and an SPF to protect the skin from UVA and UVB rays. Skin Resurfacer treatments can take up to 30 minutes.
