Anti-Wrinkle injectables are a temporary solution to getting a younger, radiant complexion. This treatment is packed with nutrients and Hyaluronic Acid which has natural anti-ageing properties, helping you to fight the signs of ageing. The injections themselves help to relax the facial muscles which cause the dynamic lines, folds and wrinkles in the skin. At DestinationSkin, we have high standards and believe our products reflect this, all our injectables are supplied by Allergan, the world’s leading supplier of cosmetic pharmaceuticals, so rest assured – they are of nothing but the highest quality.

How do Anti-Wrinkle Injections work?
Anti-Wrinkle injections work by temporarily restricting muscle movement, blocking the signals sent from our nerve endings to our muscles. Usually, when your muscles move and contract, the chemical acetylcholine, is responsible. So by blocking this chemical release, Anti-Wrinkle injections work by relaxing overactive muscles, delaying the production of further lines on the skin that these muscles would normally be making.
They are an essentially painless way of delaying the ageing process – giving you smoother, younger and tighter skin in 10-15 minutes. By using ultra-fine needles, we target the source of wrinkles directly and you will see the full, anti-ageing affect in only a week. The filler treatment can last up to three to four months depending on the individual, and we recommend repeating treatments three to four times a year for continuously silky, younger-looking skin.
At DestinationSkin, we are experts in a range of advanced procedures to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and give you natural looking results. From worry lines, laugh lines, crow’s feet and frown lines, we can reduce your life lines. We also specialise in lower face and neck areas, in correcting any asymmetry you may dislike, as well as treating excessive sweating (Hyperhidrosis) with Anti-Wrinkle injections too.

Will Anti-Wrinkle Injections work for my skin type?
Anti-Wrinkle injections can be suitable for all skin types and we pride ourselves on our products versatility. In all we do, we maintain to provide the highest standards of practice and do whatever we can to improve your experience. Before the initial procedure, a consultation will be necessary to access your suitability for this filler treatment.
What results can I expect?
Our practitioners are experienced professionals in helping you achieve natural looking results. We aim to enhance your beauty, not transform it. We seek subtlety in our treatments and during your consultation, your practitioner will discuss realistic treatment results with you.
After your first treatment, we will invite you back to the clinic to have a quick catch up and see that you are satisfied with the results. Common client feedback includes seeing a reduction of static and dynamic lines and their skin looking, and feeling, smoother.
Prior to the treatment, alcohol cannot be consumed 24 hours before. We also advise that you avoid using aspirin or other non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drugs two days before your treatment (unless they are taken to treat chronic medical conditions). By avoiding these medications, it reduces your risk of bruising at the injection sites. Ask you medical practitioner if you have any concerns about undergoing Anti-Wrinkle treatment.

How many treatments will I need?
Each Anti-Wrinkle injection lasts between 3-4 months, depending on the individual. We recommend having multiple treatments to maintain the anti-ageing results and keep the skin looking youthful. Anti-Wrinkle injections are not permanent as the filler is biodegradable. The blocked signals naturally become unblocked as your body breaks it down and the nerve endings reconnect, slowing increasing muscle movement to normal functionality again.
Having Anti-Wrinkle injections shouldn’t affect your daily life too much. We do recommend that during the healing stage you avoid wearing makeup, unless it is a mineral based make-up. After your treatment we usually apply products by the brand Youngblood.
Another recommendation is that you do not go to the gym, or use its facilities, like saunas, steam rooms or swimming pools, on the same day as you have had your treatment. You should also not touch the injected area as this can cause infection.
Q: How long does it take to recover after treatments?
A: With any injectable treatment there is a small risk of localised bleeding, bruising and swelling – usually this subsides a few hours after treatment.
Q: How do I know if I’m suitable?
A: Most people are suitable candidates for Anti-Wrinkle injections. Pregnant women, or women who are breastfeeding, are the only exception as the effect on the baby is unknown.
Q: Is it safe?
A: At DestinationSkin, we are dedicated to providing the best service and improving your experience in any way we can. Our procedures adhere to strict safety practices and by using the best products and equipment, we can ensure quality in the final results. We are supplied by the globally established brand Allergan, and exclusively only use their products such as Juvederm®. We picked Allergan as they are known for their rigorous quality assurance and clinical testing. Our Anti-Wrinkle treatment is also only administered by an experience doctor or nurse. Read more about why we are the injectable specialists here.
Q: What happens during the treatment?
A: The procedure will take place in one of our private treatment rooms, as your comfort and privacy is important to us. The medical practitioner, either a nurse or doctor, will cleanse your desired treatment area and administer the injection. This should only take 10-15 minutes.
Q: How do Anti-Wrinkle injections work?
A: Anti-Wrinkle injections work by blocking signals to nerve endings. By injecting a purified protein into the muscle, a protein similar to the natural ones found in the body, it binds to the muscle receptors and blocks the signals telling them to move or contract. When the muscle is relaxed, the skin above it is also relaxed, meaning the appearance of lines will smoothen immediately. Some deeper lines may still be visible, but in the final result, their appearance will be softer.
During your first free consultation, our experienced practitioner will discuss in depth your expectations and we will find the best treatment to help you achieve your skin goals.
Q: How long does the treatment last?
A: Our supplier has guaranteed that our Anti-Wrinkle injections last for a minimum of 3-4 months, with some clients experiencing relaxed muscles for 5-6 months. As the purified protein used in the injection is biodegradable, your body gradually breaks it down and the time this takes depends on the individual. The previously blocked receptors then begin to re-connect, meaning your muscles will start moving normally again and unwanted, dynamic lines may reappear.
Q: When should I get another Anti-Wrinkle treatments?
A: As you will begin to regain muscle movement at 12 weeks, for optimum results, we recommend that you repeat your treatments between 3-4 months of your first session. This ensures that your skin remains line free, or in the case of very deep, dynamic lines, they will remain softer and potentially continue to repair
Q: Are Anti-Wrinkle injections painful?
A: Like with most things, the thought is worse than the actual doing. The same can be said about Anti-Wrinkle injections, most people experience a very mild discomfort when having the treatment and the discomfort is over within minutes.
Q: What will I look like after my treatment?
A: Your treated area may look red, raised and slightly swollen, yet these effects only last up to 20 minutes. Swelling and bruising is not uncommon and it can occur sometimes. Usually this will heal within seven days (or sooner with herbal Arnica). You will be given specific aftercare advice if bruising is expected. We recommend that before your treatment, purchase Arnica 30cc (which are available at local your local health shops like Boots and Holland & Barrett). You should use it only following your treatment, as directed by your practitioner.
Q: When will I see the results?
A: The final results will be seen 3-4 days following injection. It will take 10-14 days for the full effect to occur and you will be offered a follow up appointment at that time to ensure that both you, and your practitioner are happy with the outcome.
Q: What if I don’t like the result or it’s too frozen for me?
A: During your consultation you can discuss with your medical professional your expectations. All of our treatments are personalised to suit your needs and address your skin concerns. Our practitioners are very experienced in delivering natural looking procedures to enhance your beauty, not dramatically alter them. Our Anti-Wrinkle injections are one of our very popular treatments as our clients are usually happy with the results. Although, we cannot guarantee how much you will love your result, we can guarantee that we will always perform our procedures in alignment with your wishes and within the highest safety practices.
Q: Is there anything serious I should be worried about before considering having Anti-Wrinkle injections?
A: Any concerns you have can be discussed with your practitioner as they will be the person who you consulate with, who performs the treatment and who will handle your aftercare. We hope you will feel comfortable going to them about any worries you may have. All of the potential risks will be outlined in the consent form, so be sure to thoroughly read it before your treatment. At DestinationSkin, we value your safety above all and we pride ourselves on our high clinical standards. Our medical team are all fully qualified, certified doctors and nurses who are vigorous in their medical practice and dedicated to delivering safe treatments. Our team’s high standard of practice will minimise any risk of you experiencing any common side effects, all this will be relayed to you during your consultation.
Q: How will I know if the side effects are normal, or something serious has happened?
A: Experiencing any mild redness, slight swelling and bruising is all very common after your treatment. The area may also feel tender to touch in the few days following, yet all these side effects are very normal and are usually nothing to worry about. It can take a maximum of 7 days for all side effects to subside completely and you should feel better as each day passes.
It is very rare to have any serious side effects, although if you do experience any of the following, please call the clinic immediately or seek help from a GP or A&E:
- Persistent swelling that gets worse with time
- Increase in pain on the treated area
- Skin feeling hot, increased redness that does not go away in time
- Skin near the treatment area, or along the side of the nose, looking pale/white or greyish in colour on the day or day after the treatment, and pain increasing in this area
- Generally feeling unwell in the following days of your treatment
Q: What if I don’t like the results or it looks too unnatural?
A: At DestinationSkin, we want to enhance your natural beauty, not transform it. Our aims of Anti-Wrinkle treatment is to give you natural, but noticeable, anti-ageing results and all of our procedures are modified to suit you and your desired outcome. Our procedures are not standardised and we listen to your wishes all the way! Most of our clients are very happy with their treatment, but of course we cannot guarantee that you will like your final result but we will strive to meet your expectations as thoroughly and safely as we can.
Q: Is it safe to have any treatment if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?
A: It is not recommended to undergo any injectable treatments if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or suspect that you are pregnant. We also recommend completely finishing breastfeeding before returning to your aesthetic treatments.
Q: What can I do to ensure I get the best results from my injectable treatments?
A: To optimise the outcome of your treatment, here are a few tips:
- Avoid consuming alcohol the day before your treatment, this will help to minimise the chance of bruising at the injection sites
- In the week before your treatment, try to avoid taking aspirin, ibuprofen or any other type of anti-inflammatory medication as this will too increase your risk of bruising
- For Anti-Wrinkle injections – please do not plan to have any other facial treatments (peels, facials, waxing, threading, semi-permanent makeup) for a week following your treatment as your skin will still be healing. Before your visit, it is fine to have facial treatments but just not in the week after the treatment. To also be on the safe side, it is best to wait at least two weeks after your procedure before returning to these skin treatments also.
- If you have been unwell with a cold virus, cold sore (herpes) or any other skin rash or condition, please phone the clinic to check if you should still attend your appointment. Your general medical health is important, and we are happy to reschedule your treatment if necessary.
- After your treatment, please closely follow the aftercare advice given to you by your Medical Injector, and please do not apply anything else to the treatment area, unless previously discussed.
What our clients say
I have just booked my second treatment at the Bristol Branch. The staff are very friendly and approachable and will spend time discussing products and treatments. I saw Marie for my Botox treatment and I was very pleased with the results and felt that I was in experienced hands. The ladies on the front counter will share their thoughts and experiences having used a lot of the products so you get valuable input to help you decide what is right for you. I will happily return again and book different treatments.
