    Frequently asked questions

    We have the answers

We love to share our knowledge, so we have answered the most commonly asked questions on our treatments for you, and we hope this information helps with any concerns you may have.  If you want to know something we haven’t covered, please do ask us a question and our expert team will get back to you.

Laser Hair RemovalPlusMinus

Q: How old do I have to be to have treatment?
A:
We only treat clients 18 years or older, this is because hormonal changes before this age may mean that your hair will still come back even after treatment.

Q: Can I have laser hair removal if I’m breastfeeding?
A: You can have laser hair removal whilst breastfeeding, the only area we don’t advise treatment on is around the nipple area, however all other body areas are fine to treat.

Q: How much downtime is there after treatments?
A: You may experience some reddening of the skin around where the hair used to be, which could last from a few minutes to 24 or 48 hours. For two days after each treatment, avoid exposure to the sun and don’t use the gym, saunas, steam rooms etc.

Q: How do I know if I’m suitable?
A: We have the safest and most effective lasers which allow us to treat all skin types.

Q: Does laser hair removal hurt?
A: Our Cynosure Elite+ lasers treat the area with a cooling jet of air to keep you feeling comfortable during your laser hair removal treatments. Our Diode lasers have a chilled applicator and we also use a cooling gel to keep discomfort to a minimum. We can apply a local anaesthetic to the area if needed; however, you will get an idea of how the treatment feels during the initial test patch. If you are used to waxing, laser hair removal is often described as less painful.

Q: Can I have laser hair removal after receiving treatment for cancer?
A: If it is under a year since you have been all clear, you cannot have laser hair removal. If you have been clear for one to three years, you will need a letter from your specialist for us to pass on to our Medical Director for review. Unfortunately, if you have had any lymph nodes removed from under your arms or breasts, you can’t have laser hair removal under your arms, even if you are all clear.

Q: How is it different from other treatments?
A: Laser hair removal requires a short-term commitment to achieve long-term results. Results are not instantaneous but once your treatments have been completed, you won’t have to think about regular hair removal again.

Electrolysis Hair RemovalPlusMinus

Q: How much downtime is there after treatment?
A: After the treatment, the area can have mild redness and localised swelling, which will all disappear after 24–48 hours. Sometimes, a small pin-prick-sized scab can form where the hair has been removed. This will disappear a few days after the treatment.

Q: How much preparation is needed?
A: You should limit any sort of hair removal that involves removing the hair from the root for at least four weeks before treatment. This includes plucking, waxing and threading. You should also avoid sun exposure for two weeks before and after the treatment.

Q: How do I know if I’m suitable?
A: An initial consultation will determine if you are suitable for the treatment. During the consultation, we will assess the area, advise on number of treatments and explain the frequency needed to achieve the results.

Q: How often should I have the treatment?
A: Regular treatments will get the best results. You will need to have treatments every two to four weeks.

Q: Does electrolysis hurt?
A: Most clients describe it as a mild warming sensation. Our practitioners are highly skilled and will adapt the treatment to suit you.

Q: Is this treatment safe?
A: At DestinationSkin we pride ourselves on having highly skilled practitioners who carry out this treatment.

Advanced Electrolysis Skin TreatmentsPlusMinus

Q: How many consultations roughly for two large facial areas?
A: We have 3 different methods of treating red veins on the face. They can all be charged by time and prices start from £60 for a 15 minute treatment.

Q: How long before you can wear foundation on your face?
A: We can apply mineral based foundation immediately after treatment which you may also purchase and you can then use the make up throughout the next few days..

Q: Is there any downtime?
A: Some clients will experience mild redness or swelling immediately following their advanced electrolysis, however your skin will return to normal the following day. Some light scabbing may appear.

Q: How should I prepare for this treatment?
A: You should also avoid sun exposure for 2 weeks before and after treatment.

Q: How often should I have the treatment?
A: Sometimes one session can reduce or remove your concern. However, sometimes 6 treatments are needed depending on the severity of your condition, and have a treatment once every 4 weeks.

Q: Does Electrolysis hurt?
A: Most clients describe it as a mild warming sensation. Our practitioners are highly skilled, and will adapt your treatment to suit each individual client.

Q: Results: what should be expected?
A: For Facial Red Veins, the capillaries may disappear or appear diffused after a few minutes. The general area will flush red which can last a couple of hours. For Cherry spots, we recommend 1 – 3 treatments, every 4 weeks. For skin tags and milia, it would be 1 – 2, and usually one is enough but sometimes you may need treatment again after 4 weeks.

Microneedling (Dermaroller & EDS)PlusMinus

Q: How much downtime is there after treatments?
A: Your skin will look flushed after this treatment and may feel tighter than normal. This will start to subside after one to two hours, with slight redness over the following couple of days. It’s important that you wear a broad-spectrum SPF 50+ product. We recommend SkinCeuticals Mineral Radiance Defence SPF 50. This will protect your skin during post-treatment. To speed up recovery time, we also recommend using the SkinCeuticals Redness Neutraliser in conjunction with a moisture-quenching hydrating serum.

Q: Is dermaroller treatment safe?
A: We only use the genuine, German-engineered dermaroller medical devices. They each carry the CE mark.

Q: Does dermaroller treatment  hurt?
A: Our dermaroller treatment doesn’t hurt. – We use numbing cream with all our skin-needling treatments to make the procedure more comfortable. The new eDermastamp is particularly gentle.

IPL TreatmentsPlusMinus

Q: Is there any downtime?
A: Your skin may appear a little flushed after the treatment, but this will subside very quickly.

Q: What will the treatment feel like?
A: We say that the light feels like a gentle warm flick to the skin. As this treatment causes gradual heating, you will experience a general warming sensation over the whole area.

Q: Why would I have IPL instead of laser treatments?
A: IPL uses a range of wave length used to target multiple levels of the skin. This is where we can target thread veins and age spots, all within the one appointment using the same treatment.

Laser Vein RemovalPlusMinus

Q: How much downtime is there after treatments?
A: The healthier your skin, the quicker it can heal. Usually the results can be seen a couple of weeks after treatment. However, as we are heating the blood vessel, darkening of the vessel isn’t uncommon and often the veins can look more pronounced until the skin has broken the vessels down. Do avoid sun exposure on the treated area.

Q: How do I know if I’m suitable?
A: We’ll take you through a complete health review to check for your suitability.

MicrodermabrasionPlusMinus

Q: How much downtime is there after treatments?
A: No recovery time is needed for this treatment.

Q: How is it different from other treatments?
A: It’s a step up from a conventional facial because we manually deep cleanse and stimulate collagen. It helps remove congestion without the need for manual extractions that can cause too much trauma to the skin, and potentially scarring.

Q: Is microdermabrasion safe?
A: No hazardous chemicals are used in this treatment, so there is minimal risk involved.

Q: How do I know if I’m suitable?
A: As this is an entry-level treatment, it’s suitable for all skin types. However, it would not be advised for anyone experiencing broken capillaries or an acne breakout on the skin’s surface.

Q: What happens during the treatment?
A: A hand piece is passed over the skin up three times. This hand piece dispenses the crystals onto the skin and they are then removed again using a vacuum.

Q: What does the treatment feel like?
A: The treatment can feel a little scratchy with a sucking sensation. However, there is minimal discomfort.

Q: What happens after the treatment?
A: After the treatment, we remove all crystals from the skin and usually apply a mask, some serums and an SPF.

Q: How quickly will I notice results?
A: You’ll be able to feel a difference to your skin straight after the treatment, and you’ll also notice the skin’s brighter look.

Skin PeelsPlusMinus

Q: Will it hurt?
A: Absolutely not. Many customers say they really enjoy their peels – the process has been described as ‘a bit like an intense facial’. Whilst the solution gets to work, you might feel tingling and your face will get warm, but it’s not uncomfortable.

Q: Won’t my skin, well, peel?
A: The peel bit of the peel is at a cellular level, depending on what level peel you go for there might be some mild peeling. This generally occurs with the more advanced peels such as TCA and Epionce. If you have any concerns please speak to one of our expert practitioners within your consultation.

Q: Will I be able to go to work?
A: All our peels are ‘no down time’, and there’s no need to worry about skin shedding, redness or irritation. In the case of intermediate and advanced peels, your practitioner will prescribe products to prepare your skin before hand. In all cases, they’ll recommend an aftercare routine to keep your fresh new skin looking and feeling gorgeous.

Skin RejuvenationPlusMinus

Q: How much downtime is there after treatments?
A: After the treatment your skin may feel a little flushed from the heat of the stimulation of the collagen. We can apply mineral make up for yourself in clinic and you can return to your normal day.

Q: Are laser skin treatments safe?
A: Lasers have been used for many years safely and effectively. The lasers we use at destination skin are approved by the FDA for their use.

Q: How do I know if I’m suitable?
A: Upon consultation we will be able to tailor a treatment plan for your individual needs and will be able to ensure you are suitable. If you are pregnant you cannot have treatment until the baby is born.

Q: What does the treatment feel like?
A: The treatment feels like a warming sensation that feels like your lying on a beach in the Caribbean! Lots of clients ask if it’s painful and the answer is NO! It’s a really lovely treatment to have.

Q: How quickly will I notice results?
A: Results can often be seen immediately after treatment however some of the results can take a number of weeks to show as the collagen production takes time to form and to come to the surface of the skin.

Botox®PlusMinus

Q: How much downtime is there after treatments?
A: With any injectable treatment there is a small risk of bruising, localised bleeding and swelling. However, this will all subside after the coming hours after treatment.

Q: How do I know if I’m suitable?
A: You shouldn’t have Botox® injections if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, since the effects on the baby aren’t known.

Q: Is this treatment safe?
A: We are rigorous in our commitment to safety. That means every time you visit us, you can be certain that you’re in safe hands. For example, we only use genuine Toxin from Allergan, our internationally-recognised partner. Toxin is a registered prescription drug. The reason we only use genuine Toxin is because Allergan rigorously tests the product against stringent guidelines. They produce clinical tests to confirm its safety and suitability for this treatment. Read more about why we are the injectable specialists, here.

Q: What happens during the treatment?
A: Your treatment will take place in one of our private treatment rooms. The medical injector will cleanse the area being treated and perform the injections.

Q: How does Botox work?
A: Botox is not a chemical or poison so please do not believe any myths you may read in magazines or online.
When injected into a human muscle, this purified protein binds to receptors on the muscle and block the signals telling the muscle to move or contract. When the muscle is relaxed, the skin overlying it is therefore also relaxed. Immediately, you will see a smoothing of the mild to moderate lines on the skin. Some of the deeper lines may still be visible, but they will look softer. Another way the Botox works is due to the skin not being traumatised by daily movement, and it can then slowly repair for a smoother appearance.

Q: How long does the treatment last?
A: The manufacturer of Botox confirms in their guidelines that the muscle will remain relaxed for 3-4 months. After this time, the muscle will generate new receptors and slowly regain all movement. In some people, this can take a little longer, and the lines may not re-appear for 5-6 months, so it may seem that the treatment has lasted longer.

Q: When should I repeat my Botox treatment?
A: Based on the fact that the muscle will begin to regain movement at 12 weeks, we recommend that you repeat your treatment between 3-4 months for the most effective maintenance of the results. This will ensure that the skin remains line free, or in the case of very deep lines, they will remain softer and potentially continue to repair.

Q: Is Botox painful?
A: Everyone has a different sensitivity to the feeling of a fine needle in the skin, but most people find that there is only a very mild discomfort associated with having Botox. The needles used are extremely fine and the treatment is over within minutes. For this reason, no topical anaesthetic is required.

Q: What will I look like after my treatment?
A: At the injection points, the skin may look red, raised and slightly swollen. These effects only last up to 20 minutes. Bruising is uncommon, but it can occur. It is not a major problem and will heal within 5-7 days (or sooner with herbal Arnica). You will be given specific aftercare advice if bruising is expected. We recommend that before your treatment, purchase Arnica 30cc (Boots, Holland & Barrett and other stockists are available) and use it only following your treatment, as directed by your practitioner.

Q: When will I see the results?
A: Results will be seen 3-4 days following injection of the Botox. It will take 10-14 days for the full effect to occur and you will be offered a follow up appointment at that time to ensure that both you, and your practitioner are happy with the outcome.

Q: What if I don’t like the result or it’s too frozen for me?
A: Our Medical Injectors are experienced with all aspects of Botox and the type of results achieved. Botox treatment is not a ‘one size fits all’, and the injector will discuss the best ‘look’ for you in your bespoke, detailed consultation. We can assure you that your treatment will be delivered safely, and in accordance to your wishes. It is a popular treatment because most people are really happy with the result. Please understand, however, that we do not have a crystal ball and therefore cannot guarantee how much you will love the result!

Q: Is there anything serious I should be worried about before considering having Botox?
A: Please make sure you read the consent form thoroughly before agreeing to have your treatment. This will outline the main side effects and risks associated with Botox treatment. At DestinationSkin, our Medical Team are fully qualified, certified and experienced Doctors, Dentists and Nurse Prescribers. All the treatments will be performed inline with strict medical protocols and to a very high clinical standard. This will minimise any of the common side effects and risks, and this will all be discussed thoroughly in your consultation.

Q: How will I know if the side effects are normal, or something serious has happened?
A: After your treatment, the common effects are mild redness, slight swelling and possible bruising. The treatment area may feel tender to touch and all of these effects are normal, will subside in a few days, but may last up to a week. Each day everything should improve slightly and the area should look more normal and feel better.

It is very uncommon to have any serious side effects, however if you do experience any of the following, please call the clinic immediately, or if after hours, seek help from a GP or A&E:

  • swelling that is getting worse as time passes
  • increase in pain and getting more severe with time
  • skin feeling hot, redness increasing and becoming worse in time
  • skin near the treatment area or along the side of the nose looking pale/white or greyish in colour on the day or day after the treatment, and pain increasing in this area
  • generally feeling unwell in the days following your treatment

Q: What if I don’t like the results or it looks too unnatural?
A: Our Medical Injectors are experienced with all aspects of HA Dermal Fillers and the type of results that can be achieved. Dermal filler treatment is not ‘one size fits all’, and the injector will discuss the best ‘look’ for you in your bespoke, detailed consultation.  We can assure you that your treatment will be delivered safely, and in accordance with your wishes based on a thorough consultation. Dermal Fillers are a popular treatment because most people are really happy with the results. Your Medical Injector will endeavour to completely understand your expectations, however we cannot guarantee how much you will love the result!

Q: Is it safe to have any treatment if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?
A: We do not recommend that you have any injectable treatments if you suspect or can confirm that you are pregnant. We also recommend that you have completely finished breast feeding before returning for your aesthetic treatments.

Q: What can I do to ensure I get the best results from my injectable treatments?
A: Here are a few tips to optimise the outcome of your treatment:

  • Avoid having any alcohol the day before your treatment. This will help to minimize the chance of bruising.
  • In the week before your treatment, try to avoid taking aspirin, ibuprofen or any other type of anti-inflammatory medication as this will also increase your risk of a bruise occurring.
  • For Botox – please do not plan to have any other facial treatments (peels, facials, waxing, threading, semi-permanent makeup) for a week following your treatment. It is ok to have these treatments at any time before your Botox visit.
  • For Dermal Fillers – please do not plan to have any other skin treatments (peels, facials, microdermabrasion, micro needling) for 1 week prior and 2 weeks after your dermal filler treatment.
  • If you have been unwell with a cold virus, cold sore (herpes) or any other skin rash or condition, please phone the clinic to check if you should still attend your appointment. Your general medical health is important, and we are happy to reschedule your aesthetic treatment if necessary.
  • After your treatment, please closely follow the aftercare advice given to you by your Medical Injector, and please do not apply anything else to the treatment area, unless previously discussed.

Dermal FillersPlusMinus

Q: How much downtime is there after treatments?
A: With any injectable treatment, there is a small risk of bruising, bleeding and swelling. We recommend that you don’t apply makeup for 12 hours unless it is mineral-powder based. You also shouldn’t use a perfumed moisturiser. Please don’t go to the gym on the same day or touch the injection site to avoid infection. If you have had a lip treatment, you shouldn’t have drinks that are too hot or too cold. For any other concerns after the treatment, simply contact your medical injector.

Q: How do I know if I’m suitable?
A: Juvéderm® dermal fillers are ideal for those looking to gently plump lines, add volume and tired looking skin with the most natural-looking results. You will notice an instant improvement to the condition of your skin. You shouldn’t have dermal filler injections if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding because the effects on the baby aren’t known.

Q: What happens during the treatment?
A: Your treatment will take place in one of our private treatment rooms. The medical injector will cleanse the area first and then perform the injections. Treatments typically take around 30-45 minutes.

Q: What does the treatment feel like?
A: The injections are relatively painless because they contain lidocaine, a local anaesthetic. A topical numbing cream can also be applied if needed.

Q: Is this treatment safe?
A: We only use internationally recognised suppliers who rigorously test their products. Our fillers are approved by the FDA and provide certified medical devices for use as dermal fillers. They carry the European CE mark.

Q: How do dermal fillers work?
A: Dermal fillers are a clear gel made of Hyaluronic Acid that are injected into various layers of the skin to treat lines and wrinkles. They can also be used more deeply, under the muscles and fat layers to restore volume or enhance features such as the cheeks, chin, lips or nose.

Q: Is the treatment painful, and what will I look like immediately after?
A: Many practitioners no longer use a topical anaesthetic (numbing) gel as the skin physiology can be altered and it may compromise the final result. However, if you are very pain sensitive, or very nervous, the Medical Injector may apply some anaesthetic cream to make the procedure more comfortable.

Q: What will I look like immediately after dermal filler?
A: When the HA gel is injected into the skin to treat lines and wrinkles, the skin may become red and slightly swollen. These effects will usually settle in an hour or so. It is also possible for a bruise to occur, but this will heal in 5-7 days (or sooner if herbal Arnica is used – please see advice in Botox notes above). When the HA gel is injected into the deeper layers, there is usually much less redness and no visible swelling or other side effect seen. Often, a micro cannula (not a sharp needle) is used to inject HA fillers into the deeper layers, and apart from a small entry hole on the skin, no other marks are visible on the face. Your Medical Injector will discuss how they will inject the Dermal Filler, and the likelihood of visible marks on the skin, based on your treatment needs. In most cases, all redness, slight swelling or even mild bruising can be easily covered with makeup.

Q: When will I see the results of dermal filler?
A: The results of your HA Dermal Filler treatment will be visible immediately. Please remember, there may be some mild redness or swelling so that the final, natural result may take a few days or up to a week to see.

Q: How often will I need to repeat the treatment?
A: HA fillers usually last 6-18 months depending on the type of filler, the amount injected and the area treated. There are other factors such as your age, skin type, rate of ageing and facial anatomy profile that will also determine your specific treatment plan, and how often you will need to repeat your treatment. Your Medical Injector will discuss this with you at the time of consultation.

Q: How long does lip filler treatment take and is it painful?
A: A topical anaesthetic cream (numbing) will be applied to your lips for up to 10 minutes before the treatment. This will make the procedure a lot more comfortable.  A skilled Medical Injector will be able to perform the procedure in a few minutes, and most people find that it is not too bad in terms of discomfort.

Q: How can I be sure that my lips won’t look to big or unnatural?
A: Our Medical Injectors at DestinationSkin are very experienced with lip fillers and the types of results that can be achieved. The syringes come in 1ml or 0.5ml (half) sizes and the correct amount of filler will be discussed with you at the consultation. Factors to consider are the result desired, the natural size of the lip before treatment, the proportion of the lips relative to the face and the age of the client. It is not always the case that a half syringe (0.5ml) is the best option even for a light enhancement. Your Medical Injector will discuss this thoroughly with you before performing the treatment.

Q: Is it a good idea to bring in images of the type of lip I would like to have?
A: Yes, it is very useful for the Medical Injector to see any pictures of lips that you like. Please remember that not all lips are the same, and a particular lip shape or size may not be suitable for your face. The best ‘look’ and realistic result will be discussed with you at the time of your consultation.

Q: How will my lips look after the treatment?
A: As soon as the filler has been placed, the Medical Injector will show you the result. This will be an almost accurate idea of how your lips will look.  However, there is usually a small amount of initial swelling, and this will increase for the next 12-24 hours. The day after the treatment, your lips may be quite swollen and look too big and unnatural. This is completely normal and will only last 12-24 hours. There is no way to avoid this swelling, so we recommend that you allow for this when planning your day after the treatment, particularly if you don’t wish for anyone to know! The risk of bruising to the lips is higher than any other areas where dermal fillers are used, and it is relatively common to have moderate to severe bruising. This will last 5-7 days.
When you arrive home after your treatment, apply ice/cold pack to the lips for 20 minutes. This may help to minimize or prevent bruising. Taking Arnica 30cc for a few days following your treatment, will also help to clear bruising in a shorter time.

Q: How long will lip filler treatment last?
A: Usually a lip filler will last up to 6 months. There are many factors that determine how long the filler will last including: the type and amount of HA filler used; how many times the lips have been filled before and the age of the client. The Medical Injector will give a good indication of the expected longevity of each treatment based on all the above factors.

Q: How much downtime is there after treatments?
A
: With any injectable treatment, there is a small risk of bruising, bleeding and swelling. Our doctors and nurses aim to produce natural-looking results for each client. During the 48 hours following your treatment, your lips may be swollen and bruised, but it should not stop you returning to your usual routine.

Q: How do I know if I’m suitable?
A:
Our clinical professionals will talk through any suitability concerns with you to agree whether lip fillers will provide the look you desire. Eligibility will also depend on your age. We can only treat clients who are 18 and over. We’ll also consider your allergies, whether you’re pregnant and your medical history.

Q: How is it different from other treatments?
A: Lip fillers can provide a natural look and feel by adding volume or defining shape. The results from lip fillers are longer lasting than other cosmetic lip-plumping products you can buy, and can be tailored to the look you want to achieve.

Q: What happens during the treatment?
A:
Your treatment will take place in one of our private treatment rooms. The practitioner will cleanse the area and then perform the injections. Treatments typically take around 30 minutes.

Q: What do lip injections feel like?
A
: The lip area can be sensitive, so we apply a numbing cream to the area before the treatment. We also only use Juvéderm® lip fillers which contain anaesthetic for maximum comfort during and after the treatment.

Q: What happens after the treatment?
A:
You can get back to work on the same day but we do advise you to avoid wearing makeup (apart from mineral make up), going to the gym on the same day, or touching the injection site. This is to minimise the risk of infection.

Q: Are lip filler treatments safe?
A:
We only use internationally recognised suppliers who rigorously test their products. Juvéderm® are approved by the FDA and provide certified medical devices for use as dermal fillers. They carry the European CE mark.

All our medical injectors are registered with their respective governing and regulatory bodies, which include the NMC, GMC and GDC. There are very few risks with dermal fillers as these are semi-permanent. Although extremely rare, if we need to reverse the results of a filler, we can use injections to counteract the effect and reverse the process.

The medical injector will carry out the consultation, deliver your treatment and manage your follow-up care at DestinationSkin. They will also be able to answer any questions you may have.

Profhilo®PlusMinus

Q: Is it expected to have lumps where the Profhilo has been injected, and how long will they be there for?
A: Following on from Profhilo there is the chance that localised lumps can form where each of the injection sites have been. These lumps will subside usually within 4-6 hours after the treatment but they can last up to 24 hours. Not every client gets these swellings and if you have had treatment and are concerned please do give us a call.

Q: How much downtime is there after treatments?
A: The downtime is minimal. When injected using the five-point technique on each side of the face, each insertion is immediately noticeable.  However, they start diffusing very quickly and they disappear completely by next day.

After the treatment, it is recommended to avoid physical strain and sports for 24 hours. Please also avoid having further cosmetic procedures for 48 hours. It is not recommended to have sauna or steamy bath for the first few days either. It’s best to stay out of the sun if any bruising or prolonged swelling occurs.

Q: How quickly will I notice results?
A: Patients can expect increased firmness, elasticity and an overall improved quality of the skin for up to six months.

Q: Will people be able to tell I’ve had “work done”?
A: Usually, people won’t be able to tell you’ve had a treatment. But this depends on the skin condition being treated and the desired outcome. Profhilo® can significantly improve skin laxity. By increasing the tissue density some patients have seen some lifting, which can be noticeable.  Most patients say they were complemented on how fresh they looked, but hardly ever asked what they had done.

Q: Will there be any side effects?
A: Hyaluronic Acid is very well tolerated by the skin. The only reported side effects are bruising and mild swelling at the injection sites. These generally disappear in a short period of time and are associated with the needle, not the product.

Q: Is the treatment safe?
A: Profhilo® was launched in February 2015 in Italy. It’s been used worldwide ever since. Over 150,000 patients have been treated so far with no adverse reactions reported. From a safety perspective, Profhilo®  is highly biocompatible. That’s because it is made from ultrapure, natural Hyaluronic Acid and is stabilised without the addition of chemical cross-linking agents. This reduces the risk of adverse reactions. The product has also won numerous awards.

Thread LiftsPlusMinus

Q: How much downtime is there after treatments?
A:
After the treatment, a slight oedema or bruising may occur. Sometimes slight depression may also occur at the entry points. However, these will disappear after a few days.

Q: How do I know if I’m suitable?
A:
We provide a full consultation to determine your expectations and suitability. On the day of your treatment, you’ll be asked to sign a consent form. Photos will be taken of you from three angles before and after the treatment, and again at the six-week review.

Q: What happens during the treatment?
A: Your skin will be cleansed, and then the thread pattern and treatment determined at your consultation will be face-mapped. After further cleansing, the local anaesthesia will be injected. Entry points are created at the beginning for the thread’s insertion. The thread is then passed in both directions until implanted. Once this is done the modelling phase starts and concludes with you sat up for a final check for symmetry. The threads are trimmed during the treatment’s completion. Finally, we’ll clean the area and apply an antiseptic ointment.

Q: What does the treatment feel like?
A:
Silhouette Soft® Thread Life is a safe and effective treatment with limited downtime. It’s performed under local aesthetic for maximum client comfort and designed to be minimally invasive.

Q: What happens after the treatment?
A
: After the treatment, photos are taken from three angles. These are for comparison with the photos taken before the treatment, and those which will be taken six weeks later at a full assessment. We’ll book this in with you before you leave and give you a set of recommendations.

Q: How quickly will I notice results?
A:
The Silhouette Soft® Thread Lift is one treatment that gives two results:

  • an instant, yet discreet, lifting action on the day of treatment; and
  • a gradual collagen regeneration providing volume and glow.

As the thread finally reabsorbs at approximately six months, the structure of collagen continues to deliver results. After 18 months, further threads can be delivered for continued results.

Q: Is the Thread Lift treatment safe?
A: Over 85,000 treatments have been performed since the launch of the Silhouette Soft® Thread Lift six years ago. The components of the Silhouette Soft® are produced under numerous quality controls in the USA. Silhouette Soft® has also received the European Union’s CE mark of approval. DestinationSkin’s prescribers of Silhouette Soft® have undergone full training and have performed amazing results for our clients. If you would like more information, please speak with us.

Q: Is there any downtime?
A: You can resume regular activity after your treatment and will be encouraged to walk to increase blood circulation. You will also have to wear support hosiery to ‘compress’ the treated vessels. You will be given a personal set of aftercare instructions.

Q: How do I know if I’m suitable?
A: Our clinical professionals will talk through any concerns with you. They’ll agree if Sclerotherapy will provide you with the results you desire. Eligibility will depend on age. We can only treat clients who are 18 and over, and we’ll consider any allergies, whether you’re pregnant and your medical history.

Q: How is it different from other treatments?
A: Sclerotherapy works on the deeper, ‘feeder veins’. That means it deals with the cause of the smaller and more superficial veins – often the main aesthetic concern. If you only treat the more superficial veins with laser and IPL treatments, they are likely to return quickly. It always makes sense to treat the cause.

Q: Is it safe?
A: Sclerotherapy can only be performed by a medical injector who has been specifically trained in the treatment. All our clinical staff are trained to administer aesthetic injections and are registered with their respective governing and regulatory bodies. They include the NMC, GMC and GDC.

Q: What will the treatment feel like?
A: It may sting a little during the treatment. Afterwards, it can feel warm and it’s common to experience mild itchiness.

Tear Trough TreatmentPlusMinus

Q: How much downtime is there after treatments?
A: With any injectable treatment, there is a small risk of bruising, bleeding and swelling. You can get back to work on the same day, but we do advise that you don’t apply makeup for 12 hours unless it is mineral-powder based. You also shouldn’t use a perfumed moisturiser. Please don’t go to the gym on the same day or touch the injection site to avoid infection. For any other concerns after the treatment, simply contact your medical injector.

Q: How do I know if I am suitable
A: Juvéderm® and Teosyal dermal fillers are ideal for those looking to improve the eye area by adding volume. You shouldn’t have dermal filler injections if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding because the effects on the baby aren’t known.

Q: Is the treatment safe?
A: Our medical injector team are highly skilled and experienced to perform the Tear Trough treatment on delicate areas like the eyes. We also may use the use of canulars, which reduce any risks greatly. All our medical injectors are registered with their respective governing and regulatory bodies, which include the NMC, GMC and GDC .

There are very few risks with dermal fillers as these are semi-permanent. Although extremely rare, if we need to reverse the results of a filler, we can use injections to counteract the effect and reverse the process.

We only use internationally recognised suppliers who rigorously test their products. Juvéderm® and Teosyal  are approved by the FDA and provide certified medical devices for use as dermal fillers. They carry the European CE mark.

The medical injector will carry out the consultation, deliver your treatment and manage your follow-up care at DestinationSkin. They will also be able to answer any questions you may have.

Q: What happens during the treatment?
A: Your treatment will take place in one of our private treatment rooms. The practitioner will cleanse the area first and then perform the treatment. Procedures typically take around 30 minutes.

Q: What does the treatment feel like?
A: The injections are relatively painless because they contain lidocaine, a local anaesthetic. A topical numbing cream can also be applied if needed, the use of canulars will mean the treatment is even more comfortable to experience.

Q: What happens after the treatment?
A: You can get back to work on the same day but we do advise you to avoid wearing makeup (except for mineral make up), going to the gym on the same day, or touching the treated area. This is to minimise the risk of infection.
