Most modern non-permanent fillers are made of Hyaluronic Acid (HA), a naturally-occurring substance found in the body, made of sugar. This helps hydrate and add volume to your skin. As you age, the natural replacement of Hyaluronic Acid is reduced and therefore the moisturising and plumping effects decrease. This is when fine lines, wrinkles and loss of volume start to appear. Dermal fillers can be used on the face, neck, décolletage or backs of hands to revitalise and refresh the overall appearance of your skin. This treatment helps  improve facial lines, acne scars and other contouring deficiencies instantly.

How does it work?PlusMinus

Genuine dermal fillers are made of Hyaluronic Acid , a substance naturally occurring in our bodies. It’s our natural hydrator: the more we have, the healthier our skin is. When we’re born, we have huge stocks of it in our skin, providing the structure and support to keep young skin plump. As we age, the levels decrease, meaning that skin becomes less supported. That allows lines and wrinkles to develop and volume loss to occur. It’s especially noticeable in the cheeks, which is where the face moves downwards. The fillers are injected below the skin’s surface to lift and smooth targeted folds and wrinkles by replenishing and adding subtle volume. The key to natural-looking results is restoring balance across the face and adding volume back where it should be.

The product is injected beneath the skin’s surface to replace the collagen and the supportive Hyaluronic Acid layers. Your doctor/nurse may massage the area to ensure that the filler is smooth. The treatment will:

  • instantly smooth away wrinkles, lines, and most scars
  • add volume to skin contour deficiencies.

Treatment time is usually 30 – 45 mins, but may be up to one hour if topical anaesthetic is applied. This helps to make the treatment more comfortable for you..

Will it work for my skin type?PlusMinus

Dermal fillers can be used on all skin types, however our thorough consultation will determine if this  treatment is right for you.

Why should I have this treatment?PlusMinus

If you are looking to address any of the following concerns, then dermal fillers will be the right treatment for you:

  • Improve cheek volume.
  • Reduce shadowing under the eyes.
  • Improve downturned mouth corners.
  • Reduce lines around the mouth.
  • Improve definition of the lips and increase volume.
  • Improve jowls.
  • Reduce the appearance of a nasal hump i.e. hook nose.

What areas of my body can be treated?PlusMinus

Usually dermal fillers are most commonly used on the face, for example in the cheeks, lips and chin region. However, they have also been known to be used on the body for specific concerns such as scarring.

Pre-treatment advicePlusMinus

Please don’t drink any alcohol during the 24 hours before your treatment. We also advise that you avoid using aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs a couple of days before your treatment (unless they are taken for a chronic medical condition). Avoiding these medications will reduce your risk of bruising at the point of injection. Ask your medical practitioner if you have any concerns.

How many treatments will I need?PlusMinus

At DestinationSkin we only use non-permanent fillers, this is due to the fact the  skin is continually changing as we age. Non permanent fillers are the safest, however results do need to be maintained.

The type of treatments and amount of product will be discussed on an individual basis at your consultation, and often if multiple treatments are needed, these will be spaced around every 2 – 4 weeks, until you have achieved the desired outcome. Dermal fillers typically last between 9 – 18 months.

You can have filler treatment and continue with your day to day activities. However, we  do advice you avoid wearing makeup, except for Youngblood mineral make up, which we can apply in clinic after your treatment.

We also recommend that you do not go to the gym, sauna’s, steam-rooms or swimming on the same day as treatment; and avoid touching the injection site.

Q: How much downtime is there after treatments?
With any injectable treatment, there is a small risk of bruising, bleeding and swelling. We recommend that you don’t apply makeup for 12 hours unless it is mineral-powder based. You also shouldn’t use a perfumed moisturiser. Please don’t go to the gym on the same day or touch the injection site to avoid infection. If you have had a lip treatment, you shouldn’t have drinks that are too hot or too cold. For any other concerns after the treatment, simply contact your medical injector.

Q: How do I know if I’m suitable?
Dermal fillers are ideal for those looking to gently plump lines, wrinkles and tired looking skin with the most natural-looking results. You will notice an instant improvement to the condition of your skin. You shouldn’t have dermal filler injections if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding because the effects on the baby aren’t known.

Q: What happens during the treatment?
Your treatment will take place in one of our private treatment rooms. The medical injector will cleanse the area first and then perform the injections. Treatments typically take around 30-45 minutes.

Q: What does the treatment feel like?
A: The injections are relatively painless because they contain lidocaine, a local anaesthetic. A topical numbing cream can also be applied if needed.

Q: Is this treatment safe?
We only use internationally recognised suppliers who rigorously test their products. The fillers we use are approved by the FDA and provide certified medical devices for use as dermal fillers. They carry the European CE mark.

All our medical injectors are registered with their respective governing and regulatory bodies, which include the NMC, GMC and GDC. There are very few risks with dermal fillers as these are semi-permanent. Although extremely rare, if we need to reverse the results of a filler, we can use injections to counteract the effect and reverse the process.

The medical injector will carry out the consultation, deliver your treatment and manage your follow-up care at DestinationSkin. They will also be able to answer any questions you may have.
