Whether you’ve been considering laser hair removal for a while or whether you’re a total newbie, you should know that with this fantastic time saving treatment, there is a specific time of year that is best to begin your journey at, to ensure you get the very best results possible. In this blog, we’re recapping how laser hair removal works, as well as when in the year you should consider getting it and why.
How does laser hair removal work?
Let’s firstly recap how laser hair removal work. Laser hair removal, as the name suggests, uses laser technology to target your hair at the root and destroy the follicle. Following a series of consistent sessions, this action stunts the growth of the hair and also acts to prevent future hair growth. The laser works by detecting the difference between the colour of your skin and the colour of your hair – so the more difference there is between these, the better laser hair removal will work. However, whilst laser hair removal is most effective for those with lighter skin and darker hair, we are proud to say that – thanks to our state of the art machines – we are able to treat ALL skin and hair types!
As laser hair removal targets the hair at the follicle, it is much more effective than alternatives such as waxing or shaving, which only remove part of the hair.
What time of year should I have laser hair removal?
A lot of people believe they can have laser hair removal at any time of the year, which is true. However, there is an optimum time of year to have this treatment, as it’s when your skin is in the best condition to get results. Part of this is due to the fact that laser hair removal shouldn’t be performed on you if you have a tan, as it won’t work as effectively.
So, when should you have laser hair removal? You should have laser hair removal in the autumn months, around October/November, as at this time it is less likely that you have got a tan from either being on holidays or catching the sun in the UK. Also, in order to keep your treatments consistent, we recommend this time of year as it is less likely that you have any holidays booked, and therefore you can keep your treatments more close together – having laser hair removal sessions every 4 – 6 weeks over the course of your treatment will get the best results.
As we mentioned previously, when the skin and hair colours are more closely matched (what you see happen when you have a tan), decreases the effectiveness of laser hair removal. Therefore, whilst we can treat darker and tanned skin, the settings on the machine cannot be set as aggressively compared to when you do not have a tan so you may require more treatments than you would without a tan.
