Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring glycosaminoglycan present in connective tissue throughout the body. Glycosaminoglycans are polysaccharides, which are lengthy unbranched carbohydrates or sugars.

It is the key component that provides your skin structure and gives it that plump, hydrated appearance. It plays an essential function in wound healing and declines with age, making us more prone to sagging and wrinkles.

Hyaluronic acid is the main ingredient in the Profhilo procedure, the first injectable hyaluronic acid-based skin treatment. It’s a skin-rejuvenation therapy that leaves you with a beautiful, glowing complexion. Continue reading to learn further about hyaluronic acid and why it’s much more than just a fad ingredient.

Hyaluronic Acid Injection

Hyaluronic acid injections are a type of temporary dermal filler. It is naturally present throughout the body, with the largest concentrations found in the joints, eyes, and skin. HA draws water into the skin, allowing it to become more hydrated.

The fat, muscles, bone, and skin in our faces begin to thin as we age; this loss of volume causes the face to appear sunken or sagging and fine lines, creases, folds, and thin lips. Injectable HA treats these and adds structure, framework, and volume to the face and lips. The effects of injectable hyaluronic acid are instantly noticeable.

It can also be used more like a high-performance injectable moisturiser than a filler. Profhilo (the treatment name for HA injections) is most typically used on the face and neck, where wrinkles and drooping skin are most visible. However, it can be utilised whenever tighter, younger-looking skin is needed.

What’s The Difference Between Dermal Fillers And Hyaluronic Acid Injections?

The treatment process and final results differentiate Hyaluronic Acid Injections from dermal fillers. Dermal fillers are injectable facial fillers that provide instant plumping. They are typically used on specific parts of the face, such as the lips, cheeks, and jaw, to contour and restore volume to sunken and depressed areas. They are also used to prevent the formation of wrinkles (such as those on the forehead) and as a jowl filler.

Hyaluronic Acid Injections, on the other hand, do not volumise when injected into the skin and instead function to revitalise and moisturise your complete appearance rather than changing specific areas.

Profhilo is popular because it gives a fresh, natural appearance while softening fine lines and wrinkles, unlike dermal fillers. So the advantage is that you don’t look to be ‘done.’ Click here to read all the areas that you can have profhilo.

How Often Can You Get Hyaluronic Acid Injections?

In general, you should plan on returning every 6 months. While some people prefer more regular treatments, not wanting to wait for their lines or wrinkles to reappear completely before seeking further treatment, others may be able to wait seven or even nine months between treatments.

How Does Hyaluronic Acid Work?

The skin advantages of hyaluronic acid are due to its molecular weight and concentration. The molecular weight of a HA molecule refers to its mass or how big it is. This is measured in unified atomic mass units, also known as daltons or kDa for short.

According to the most recent human studies, HA between 50 to 1,000 kDa is the most useful for skin, with around 130 kDa being the best. Anything higher won’t make a significant difference. Anything less than that may cause irritation.

When you look at the research, you’ll notice a pattern, they discovered that therapy with 130 kDa HA was the most effective after one month, increasing skin elasticity by 20%. After 60 days, both the 50 and 130 kDa groups showed a significant reduction in wrinkle depth and skin roughness.

VITAMIN C

To celebrate National Vitamin C Day on April 4th, we’ve partnered up with leading skincare brand SkinCeuticals, bringing you everything you need to know about the magic skincare ingredient. From the boast of benefits to the type of serum that’s right for you, carry on reading to see why you need to incorporate Vitamin C into your beauty regime.

Why do you need to use a Vitamin C serum?

Skin is naturally built for repair, but factors in daily life like exposure to sun and pollution generate free radicals – unstable molecules that can damage and prematurely age skin. Daily topical use of pure Vitamin C, an antioxidant our bodies do not naturally produce, is the gold standard for environmental protection.

However, Vitamin C must be properly formulated for optimal absorption into skin. Skinceuticals founding scientist Dr. Sheldon Pinnell established and patented the first Vitamin C formulation parameters (known as the Duke Patent Parameters) for ensuring effective absorption and efficacy within skin:

1. Pure vitamin C
2. In a high concentration of 10-20%
3. At a low pH (<3.5)

SkinCeuticals vitamin C serums are backed by 30 years of antioxidant research and demonstrated efficacy in independent, in-vivo (live skin) clinical studies, to deliver advanced environmental protection and targeted visible results.
