Laser Hair Removal

Hair removal for men can be an arduous and, at times, uncomfortable task. Regular shaving of your beard can be fiddly and time-consuming. For some, it can also lead to painful ingrown facial hairs. If you suffer with excessive body hair growth in areas such as your back or shoulders and want to remove it, the process shouldn’t be difficult or leave you feeling insecure.

In this guide, we explore the best permanent hair removal options available and why laser hair removal is worth your time.

What is the best method of permanent hair removal for men?

Common options such as waxing and shaving can are often inefficient, and in some cases, they can seriously irritate your skin.

Compare these techniques to laser hair removal, which is a highly effective method offering long-lasting results from only a few short sessions, and you can see why it’s a preferred option for many men looking to remove unwanted hair.

Discover more below about how laser hair removal works, areas you can have treated, and what our male clients have to say about their experiences with this treatment.

What is laser hair removal?

The treatment that we offer at DestinationSkin and truly believe to be the best method of hair removal is laser hair removal for men. This is a non-invasive treatment that usually requires only 6-9 sessions (plus some additional maintenance sessions, in some cases) in order to see a significant reduction in hair growth.

During laser hair removal, light energy is used to target the dark hair pigment directly at the root, destroying the hair follicle, which makes it highly unlikely that the hair will grow back.

Unlike IPL devices, laser hair removal requires a lot less sessions thanks to its capacity to directly target the areas that need addressing. It also works just as well on darker skin tones.

This means that, after the initial spend on your laser hair removal course, your expenditure on hair removal will go down hugely. With the correct aftercare, your skin should be smooth and free of any of the ingrown hairs you’d get with other hair removal methods.

What areas can be treated with laser hair removal?

At DestinationSkin, we can treat most areas of the body with laser hair removal. Popular areas for men to have hair removed include the sideburns, beard line, eyebrows, chest, abdomen, back and shoulders.

During the warmer season, the majority of our clientele often choose laser hair removal for men’s privates or back.

However, getting full body courses isn’t uncommon, especially for athletes including bodybuilders and swimmers. This is often the most cost-effective solution. Check out men’s full body laser hair removal prices here.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

Although laser hair removal isn’t completely pain free, most of our clients are actually quite comfortable during the treatment.

Depending on their skin type, some men have likened the sensation to a rubber band being snapped at your skin, while others described it as small zaps or pinches.

For facial courses, the laser machine is set at a lower heat to protect the skin and avoid damage. Your practitioner will also apply soothing creams and lotions to ensure there is minimal irritation.

Other hair removal methods for men

Whilst permanent hair removal can never be guaranteed, there are a number of other options that can help men manage hair growth.

Shaving is the default option for many men. However, this method can lead to ingrown hairs and irritate your skin. As shaving only removes the hair on the surface of the skin and does not penetrate deeper than this to target the source of hair growth, it needs to be done regularly (normally every 2-3 days), particularly if you’re aiming to keep a certain look with your facial hair.

Overall, shaving does work, but the regular upkeep required, alongside the potential for irritated skin, doesn’t make it an ideal hair removal technique.

Another hair removal option that some men go for is waxing. Waxing involves stripping the hair from the skin using hot wax and paper, which can often be painful and, like shaving, can lead to the skin becoming irritated.

Whilst more long-lasting than shaving, waxing requires treatment every 3-4 weeks, so it is not only time consuming but, over a lifetime, it can also become a great expense.
