The good news is that we’re busy gearing up to re-open our clinics in July! In the meantime, some of you might be wondering how you can maximise results at home.
Our Group Clinical Director, Dr Toni Philips shares her expertise on how to maintain your ‘tweakments’ with a round-up of top tips and tricks.
I’ve paused my Botox or filler alternatives – will this impact the results?
Injectable treatments, such as Botox and HA gel fillers, are designed to improve the skin, muscle and connective tissue quality in the long term, as well as provide instant aesthetic improvement.
Not to worry, a break of three to six months will not affect the overall result, even though it may seem like the result is ‘wearing off’ or not the same as when it was first done.
Once the treatments are resumed, the full effect will be seen again and will continue to support the facial structures against the process of normal ageing.
Is there anything I can do at home to maintain the results of Botox or filler alternatives?
In the meantime, there is one thing that can be done at home – facial yoga!
Facial massage (even around the lips) activates the facial lymphatics and gets the blood flowing to transport oxygen and essential nutrients to the skin and facial tissues. The exercises are based on the same principles as resistance training, leaving your skin feeling firmer and fuller.
Top tip #1: For the best results, try and incorporate these exercises into your everyday skincare routine.
Top tip #2: Make sure you’re not wearing any products before your facial yoga session, as they can make the skin soft and slippery – you need a good grip to really feel the effects!
Which products would you recommend to prolong the effects of Botox or filler alternatives?
There are some active skin care products, such as glycolic acid and retinol, which resurface the skin and boost collagen daily, preventing the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
I’d recommend trying the SkinCeuticals Glycolic 10 Renew Overnight, which improves the appearance of fine lines, and promotes a more youthful-looking, radiant complexion. In addition to this, the SkinCeuticals Retinol 0.3%, which helps to diminish the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and dark spots. However, if you’re under the age of thirty, stick to a quality antioxidant product (Vitamin C) and apply twice daily.
The best way to replicate the effects of a filler treatment is to use a quality hyaluronic acid mask for 30 mins before heading out. Hyaluronic acid also comes in serum form, including SkinCeuticals Hydrating B5 or the Dermaquest Essential B5 Hydrating Serum. These products work to leave the skin feeling replenished, whilst appearing smoother and more radiant.
How effective are lip plumping glosses?
Looking for a short terms boost? Lip plumping glosses are effective as they contain ingredients that irritate the lip tissue and cause the blood vessels to swell. Essentially it causes a mild inflammation reaction, which will make the lips look swollen and fuller. The results last a few hours, so ideal for a future event or a night out, or if you’re looking for a little pick-me-up while at home!
I’m waiting for my next HydraFacial course; how should I look after my skin at home?
A good at-home skincare routine is the best way to support your skin until you see your expert skin therapist again – focus on consistency and optimal cleansing.
Choosing the correct cleanser is key. The right cleanser needs to remove excess oil (sebum) if present; gently exfoliate off dead skin cells and debris on the skin surface but leave the skin barrier intact and not interfere with the water levels. The result is optimally clean skin, no dead surface debris and intact hydration levels which promotes glowing skin.
Furthermore, every skin type can benefit from this overnight hero product, SkinCeuticals Glycolic 10 Renew Overnight, this will exfoliate and refresh the skin while you sleep so that you awake with a smooth, even toned, glowing skin.
