Taking the plunge and getting anti-wrinkle injections can often be a daunting experience, and leave you with several questions about what type of clinic or professional to get them from, which areas you need, and any side effects it may have. We want all of our clients and prospective clients to be fully informed and understand the truth when it comes to any treatments they are considering, and carry it as our duty to ensure this is done before they have any treatments with us. Whilst we encourage you to come into clinic to speak with one of our highly experienced team of Medical Injectors, we want to share our most commonly asked questions (they might be yours too!), and give our expert advice when it comes to the treatment that helps you wind back the clock!…

What is Botox®?
Botox® (Botulinum toxin) is a prescription only substance that is used to relax the facial muscles, prevent excessive sweating, and help with other medical conditions. Known within the industry as the most reputable brand and producer of Botulinum toxin, Botox® is a market leading substance and known for it’s high levels of safety and assurance.
How does Botox® work?
Without going into the nitty-gritty, when Botox® is injected into the skin, it temporarily blocks the signals that are sent to our muscles, to stop them from contracting. This allows the treatment to stop the muscles in specific areas from being over active, which subsequently prevents the formation of lines and wrinkles (hurrah!)
How long does Botox® last?
The manufacturer of Botox® confirms in their guidelines that the muscle will remain relaxed for 3-4 months. After this time, the muscle will generate new receptors and slowly regain all movement. However, please bear in mind that this varies from person to person depending on individual factors such as lifestyle, how much exercise you do, whether you smoke etc, therefore it can be more or less than 3-4 months.
Is Botox® safe?
At DestinationSkin we are rigorous in our commitment to safety and only use genuine Toxin from the leading manufacturers of Botox®, Allergan. Toxin is a registered prescription drug, and the reason we only use genuine Toxin is because Allergan rigorously tests the product against stringent guidelines. They produce clinical tests to confirm its safety and suitability for this treatment.
Across all of our clinics we have a dedicated team of highly experienced and professional Medical Injectors, all of whom are either Nurses or Doctors that have gone through extensive medical training to achieve the qualifications they have, meaning you are in the safest hands when having your treatments with us. You can read more about all of our wonderful Medical Injectors, their backgrounds and their specialist fields here.
Is Botox® painful?
Everyone has a different sensitivity to the feeling of a fine needle in the skin, but most people find that there is only a very mild discomfort associated with having Botox®. The needles used are extremely fine and the treatment is over within minutes.
Will I bruise after Botox®?
There is a small risk of bruising, localised bleeding and swelling after you have had treatment. However, this will all subside after the coming hours after treatment. If you do continue to have bruising or swelling and this does not subside within a matter of hours, contact your local GP immediately.
Can I exercise after Botox®?
You can have Botox® treatment and continue with your day to day activities. However, we recommend that you do not go to the gym, saunas, steam-rooms or swimming on the same day as treatment; and avoid touching the injection site.
Where can Botox® be injected?
Botox® can be injected into a number of sites on the face according to your desired results, and this can be fully discussed with your Medical Injector during consultation. Popular areas include the forehead and in between the eyebrows to reduce frown lines, the side of the eyes to reduce crow’s feet wrinkles, lip lines to reduce lines and wrinkles left by ageing or smoking, and in the armpits to reduce excessive sweating.
