treat any clients under
the age of 18.
Your initial mandatory skin consultation, held in a private treatment room, allows you to discuss your concern, treatment goals and expectations with your medical practitioner. With this information, your practitioner can put together a tailored treatment plan, including pre-treatment advice and aftercare suggestions, that can help you get the result you’re looking for.
Depending on your concern, the medical practitioner you’ll speak to will either be a doctor, nurse or practitioner who’s highly qualified in treating your specific condition. All of our injectable treatments are undertaken by a doctor or nurse.
What will happen in my consultation?
As part of our commitment to safety, you will be asked some questions about your medical history and lifestyle and will be asked to complete a medical questionnaire and self-certification form.
Your consultation also includes taking a deeper look at your concern. Depending on your condition, this might mean having your skin scanned under a UV lamp or having a patch test (e.g. for excessive hair growth treatment). You can read more about the process of UV skin assessments and their benefits here.
You can expect to be with your practitioner for 45 minutes to an hour in total, which gives you time to ask any questions about the treatments prescribed for you and for the practitioner to thoroughly examine your skin and explain in depth the treatments they think would be suitable for you.
How to prepare for your consultation
If you are coming to see us for a laser hair removal consultation, we will need to assess the hair growth and thickness of your hair, to determine the best treatment programme for you. We will require some hair growth in the area you wish to be treated so that we can perform a test patch, which will allow us to determine which machine settings will deliver the best results for you. It is important you notify us if you have a tan (real or fake) or have applied any moisturisers including tan in the past 3 weeks as these can affect your ability to have a test patch. Please call your clinic ahead of your appointment if you are unsure.
If you are attending a skin concern consultation, we will start by removing your make-up (if applicable) so we can thoroughly cleanse your skin before assessing and discussing your concerns. You will also be offered a complimentary skin scan under a UV scanner to highlight any underlying damage to your skin that may not yet be visible to the naked eye. As we will be removing any make-up you might have on, you may wish to bring it with you to re-apply afterwards. Alternatively, we are able to offer mineral foundation to be applied afterwards.
If you are attending an injectable treatment consultation with one of our medical team, it is advisable to bring details of any previous injectable treatments you have had, including the treatment name, product used and date of the treatment. If you wish to proceed with treatment on the same day as your consultation (providing you are suitable for treatment) please mention this at the time of booking so additional time can be allocated. For the treatment, we will need to remove any make-up you might have on, so you may wish to bring more with you to re-apply afterwards. Alternatively, we are able to offer mineral foundation to be applied afterwards.
As part of any of the above consultations, we will discuss any current medicine you may be taking as some medication may interfere with selected treatments. Please bring with you a list of any medicine you may be taking and the doses so we can tailor your treatment programme to your individual needs.
Will I take anything home with me?
Your no-obligation consultation is an opportunity to discuss your condition with a medical practitioner without feeling any pressure to buy. We understand it can be difficult to remember everything your practitioner discusses with you, so we’ve developed a library of educational leaflets that explain each of the conditions we treat, as well as information about how our treatments work to support your decision making at home. You will also be given a bespoke client prescription which explains your optimum treatment programme. In some cases where skincare products are recommended, you may be given samples of these to take home and try before purchasing.
Are your consultations free?
Consultations for laser hair removal and skin treatments are completely free! We will however ask for a fully refundable £25 deposit at the time of booking to secure your appointment. This will either be fully refunded after your consultation or deducted from the cost of treatment/products you purchase.
For injectable consultations we require deposits from £25-£75 depending on the level of Medical Injector you are seeing. This is fully redeemable off the cost of treatment, should you decide to proceed.
Unfortunately, due to appointment demand, if you fail to give us 48 hours’ notice or do not attend your consultation the deposit will be non-refundable.
What will my treatment journey look like?
Your treatment plan is tailored to you. We pride ourselves on being honest and genuine in our approach and only recommend a treatment plan that will deliver a solution to your concern and help you to restore your health. For some conditions such as Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) your doctor or nurse might only recommend injectable treatments (toxin), whereas some conditions such as acne might need a combination of treatments and clinically proven cosmeceutical products to achieve the results you deserve.
What happens after each treatment?
As part of your treatment plan, you’ll have full access to our aftercare. We pride ourselves on getting results for our clients and strive to make a tangible difference to every person we see, from improving self-confidence through to helping you live your life without a condition taking control. If you need to speak to a member of our team at any point, we can either book you in for a free treatment review, offer advice over the phone, or even refer you to our Medical Director. When you commit to correcting a skin condition with DestinationSkin, we commit to offering you the complete tailored service that you deserve.
What qualifications do you have?
The General Medical Council (GMC), General Dental Council (GDC) and the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) require all registered Doctors, Dentists & Nurse Prescribers (respectively) to comply with their professional standards. At DestinationSkin we go above & beyond. All members of our clinical team (Doctors, Dentists & Nurse Prescribers) are put through rigorous trade tests ensuring that they conform not only to the professional requirements, but also our more stringent expectations. We accept nothing less than the best amongst our team of medical practitioners.
Can I start my laser treatment on the same day as my consultation?
You will need to wait 24 hours after your consultation for your first treatment. This is because, at your consultation, we need to perform a test patch on the areas you wish to have treated to ensure we are using the correct settings to give you the best results.
I have had laser treatments before with another company do I still need a consultation?
As we are committed to your safety, we still need to perform a test patch and consultation – however, we will tailor the consultation to your needs.
Can I bring a friend with me to the consultation?
You may bring someone with you to the consultation but they will need to leave the room when we carry out test patches.
Can I have a skin treatment on the same day as my consultation?
Yes, you can. We will still assess your skin and tailor a treatment plan for yourself and, if time permits, we can perform our introductory skin treatments on the same day.
Do you have translators in the clinic to help me understand?
We don’t have translators on-site, but you can of course bring a friend or family member with you to translate for you.
Are the consultations performed in private rooms?
All of our consultations and treatments are performed in private rooms.
