Unwanted hair growth is a personal issue for men & women alike. DestinationSkin have treated 305000 clients for laser hair removal of all skin types & ethnicities with excessive hair growth so you know that you are in safe hands. DestinationSkin also specialise in facial laser hair removal which is a safe treatment to permanently reduce facial hair on the upper lip, chin, side burns, eyebrow area or hairline.
Understanding hair growth
All body & facial hair goes through 3 distinct phases of growth; Anagen, Catagen & Telogen. At any time, 85% of your hair is in the anagen phase (active growth) which where you get best results from a laser hair removal treatment. This is because the follicle (dermal papilla) is closest to the skins surface. The laser beam targets the follicle, heats it & destroys the hair.
How does laser hair removal work?
Laser energy is a highly effective, targeted and proven method to remove hair. If you’ve ever noticed how dark clothes absorb sunlight & heat up on a hot day, you’ll begin to understand how the pigment (colour) in a hair follicle absorbs heat from the laser. This destroys the follicle and prevents further growth.
Is laser hair removal right for me?
We have invested in the safest & most effective lasers to allow us to treat all skin types & ethnicities. The Cynosure Elite+ lasers utilise different wavelengths to target the hair follicle whilst leaving the surrounding skin untouched. Laser treatment is most effective on darker hair as it is best absorbed when there’s more pigment. Our Cynosure Elite+ lasers mean we get good results even if you have darker skin or very light hair where other lasers wouldn’t work.
What results can I expect?
We use the most advanced lasers, Cynosure Elite+ as you progress through your treatments to bring the best results for all skin types. Over a course of treatments, expect permanent, visible results – hair growth is reduced by 79% after just 3 treatments. Because results are why you’re here.
Hair follicles that successfully absorb the laser will never grow back. Hair follicles that are dormant or reactive with age or hormonal changes may reappear but will be lighter, finer and fewer.
How many treatments will I need?
Multiple treatments are needed (between 6-8) because only hair in the active growth phase, or “anagen” phase can be affected by the laser. Time is needed for hairs in the Catagen & Telogen phases to move into the Anagen face. Effective results require treatments spread evenly. We recommend once every 4 weeks to remove facial hair and every 6-8 weeks to remove body hair.
We use the Fitzpatrick scale as a method of testing skin types to understand how your skin reacts to light and to help us identify the best methods of treatment.
Our practitioners have extensive knowledge in using this dermatologically tested scale to identify and treat skin types and we are able to offer both laser hair removal and skin treatments for skin types I-VI .
- Type I Pale white; blonde or red hair; blue eyes; freckles — always burns, never tans
- Type II White; fair; blonde or red hair; blue, green or hazel eyes — usually burns, tans minimally
- Type III Cream white; fair with any hair or eye colour; quite common — sometimes mild burn, tans uniformly
- Type IV Moderate brown; typical Mediterranean skin tone — rarely burns, always tans well
- Type V Dark brown; Middle Eastern skin types — very rarely burns, tans very easily
- Type VI Deeply pigmented dark brown to black — never burns, tans very easily
Our practitioners have treated thousands of clients with skin types V-VI. We use the latest technology in ND:Yag lasers to offer the only FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved method of hair removal for skin types V-VI, so you can be sure that you’re in safe hands.
