Why Should You Use A Moisturiser On Your Skin?

With luxury skincare worth £501 million* in 2014– do we really know the importance of different products and the benefits of using them?

Everyone has a slightly different skincare regime and use an array of products depending on skin types but in this blog we’ll look at the importance of using a moisturiser no matter what your age, skin type, skin concern etc.     Moisturisers come in all shapes and sizes from gel, serums and creams but essentially they all help to hydrate the very top layer of our skin, the stratum corneum. This layer of skin acts like a barrier to the harsh environment; cold weather, central heating, pollution, sun damage etc. If we don’t continually maintain the stratum corneum with a good, beneficial moisturiser such as the ones we’ve listed below –  then the efficacy of this layer will diminish – this is where skin loses its elasticity, healthy glow, but most importantly without the hydration it can’t support the layers underneath which are essential in the ‘scaffolding’ of our skin. Itchy, irritable skin then cracks and could lead to skin infections in extreme cases.

Maintaining a good, basic skincare routine as early as possible, with the use of a moisturiser will not only help to reveal a glowing, healthy, hydrated complexion but it will absorb into the lower layers to reveal beautiful, fresh skin each time you exfoliate. But, be careful as moisturisers can sometimes be confused with hydrators.  These are an additional step in a skincare regime to help boost the hydration levels using Hyaluronic acid, within the skin and are to be used in conjunction with a moisturiser.

Here at DestinationSkin we work with some of the most well-known cosmeceutical suppliers in the aesthetics industry, Dermaquest, SkinCeuticals, Obagi, Clarisonic to name but a few.
