Meet the Team – Jessica Cannell

Jessica CannellToday we’re catching up with Training Manager for DestinationSkin, Jessica Cannell. Jessica will be sharing with us why she loves teaching others about how to care for their skin, her favourite treatments and how she cares for her skin on a day-to-day basis.

How did you get into this training role, have you always wanted to work on the educational side of skincare?

After I qualified as a beauty therapist I actually worked in a department store for a skin care company for six years! I really enjoyed it at the time but felt like there was so much more I could learn about the industry. When I was contacted about working for DestinationSkin I thought about it for a while, but it was the best thing I ever did!
I started out as a Clinic Manager in Guildford where I stayed for three years. I then became a Training Specialist which naturally progressed onto Training Manager. Now I travel around all of the clinics, training new and existing clinicians in our treatments and products.

What kinds of treatments do you perform in your role?

Since I have been taking the training sessions for new clinicians, every day is different. We like them to experience practising every treatment that we offer clients and these range from Laser Hair Removal to IPL to more advanced techniques such as Dermaroller.

Do you have any treatments yourself, if so, which ones?

I have lots of DestinationSkin treatments, they have really helped my skin as when I first started here I had acne, scarring and sun damage. They really do work as now I can barely recognise the skin I had before I came here. I talk about these treatments all day, educating trainee practitioners and patients about their benefits so it is really good to be able to talk from experience.

Do you have a favourite?

My favourite treatments would have to be the IPL Collagen Boost and the Obagi Blue Peel Radiance alongside lighter skin resurfacers from DermaQuest and Agera. I’m also rather a big fan of the Dermaroller, which has helped me get rid of acne scarring and generally improves the appearance of my skin.
When I have time I also enjoy getting the SmoothShapes treatment, which targets cellulite and reduces the bumpy shadowed areas.

What is your ultimate skin care tip?

That’s easy, use an antioxidant and SPF every day! Free radicals caused by normal daylight will cause up to 80% of skin ageing so using an antioxidant serum every day will neutralise these and help reduce wrinkles in the future.

What is your daily skincare routine?

In the morning I use DermaQuest’s Essential Daily Cleanser, I then apply SkinCeuticals’ C E Ferulic before putting on the all important Epionce Ultra Shield SPF 50 and finally Dermaminerals Mineral Foundation.
At the end of the day I cleanse my face with the Epionce Lytic Gel Cleanser and then twice a week I use Agera’s Microderma System and then either SkinCeuticals’ Resveratrol or the brand new DermaQuest Hydrafirm Serum.

What inspires you to do what you do?

I’m passionate about what DestinationSkin do and the results they achieve. I especially enjoy educating employees about how our products and treatments are different to normal beauty brands you get from the high street. It’s amazing the confidence and excitement you experience once you start using the right products, or have the correct course of treatments to improve your skin.

My favourite days are when I see our practitioners getting really enthused about what they can do to help their clients and themselves. This industry is advancing so quickly with new technologies so there is always something new to learn and get excited about.
