I will tell you about interesting developments within Destination Skin and ways in which we a continually striving to bring you an even better service. I will also keep you up to date on trends in the Aesthetic world which will hopefully help you to find the right treatments for you.

I want to start by giving you some tips on getting the most out of your Destination Skin treatments as we near the end of the summer of 2014. Although the whole of the UK has become a little cooler, it is important to realise that the intensity of UV rays is still very high and we need to keep protecting ourselves just as we did during the warmer, sunnier months of June and July.

1) Book in for some extra hydration treatments

By the late summer, our skin has been through high temperatures, sun exposure, and humid conditions. Despite our best efforts to keep hydration levels up, most of us are probably a little dehydrated and this will also show on our skin as dryness and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Not only on the face, but dehydration can also show up on the skin of the neck, décolleté and the back of your hands.

Speak to your DS skin expert about the benefits of the DS hydrating peels such as Glycolic Stem Cell Peel or a custom Hydrating Prescription Facial. Why not try an amazing Intraceuticals Oxygen facial? To support skin hydration levels on  daily basis, add an extra hydrating skin care product to your regime such as the DermaQuest Hydrating B5.

Our Medical team can offer you some outstanding results using injectable hydrating products such as Juvederm Hydrate which is a one-step treatment resulting in a beautiful glow, and can also be used on the lips…semi-permanent lip balm!!

For a deep repair which boosts elastin and collagen, Restylane Skin Boosters is a 3-step treatment and is especially good for the neck, décolleté and back of hands.

All of these treatments are great all year round, but are especially useful now! Enjoy!

2) Sunscreen…Sunscreen…Sunscreen…and a great Anti-Oxidant serum!!SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic

Let’s be honest, when the winter is over, we all love to feel the warmth of the sun on our skin. If you’ve been part of our DS community for a while, you will already know about the virtues of a good sunscreen! The trick is to find the right formula for your skin, one that absorbs nicely and gives you a good make up base, or just a fresh look if you don’t wear any.

Speak to your DS skin expert about choosing one in our range that you love. Then it will be easy to remember to use it every day and it will become a part of your skin routine. For SPF 50 protection try OBAGI Sun Shield Matt, great if you tend to be oily. For a multi-action SPF30, you can use DermaQuest Stem Cell Tinted Moisturizer. These are only two out of our fantastic range where you will find something perfect for your skin type.

A top tip? Starting with a high potency anti-oxidant such as SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic or the OBAGI Serum C 15% will add extra UV protection. This, as well as the usual benefit of fighting skin-damaging free radicals, leads to brighter, fresher skin.

If you haven’t yet tried one of our anti-oxidant serums, now is the perfect time to help repair the skin post-summer. You will see results in a few days and won’t ever look back!

3) Invest in a CLARISONIC PRO facial brush

The magic is in the sonic vibrations that literally shake the dirt, oil and debris off the skin. This is especially useful in the warmer months when we tend to sweat more, along with the usual daily buildup of make-up and pollutants on the skin. The Clarisonic facial brush will help you to achieve the most optimal clean and keep your skin feeling and looking fresh.

A top tip? The Clarisonic is so effective at cleansing the skin and preparing the skin surface, that it has been proven that skin care products will actually absorb much more effectively. The benefit for you? Products that work even better and your bottles will last longer as it’s likely that you won’t need as much. Cool economy.

4) Hydrate (drink water) pre and post treatment

It is always a good idea to make sure you are adequately hydrated on the day of your treatment at Destination Skin. This is true all the year round but especially in the warmer weather.

The day before your visit, try to limit caffeine, alcohol, excess sugar and salt. All of these will alter the way water is carried, stored and utilized in your body, and is also related to how your skin may react following your treatment.

The after effects (redness, swelling, tenderness) of treatments such as injectable dermal fillers, laser hair reduction and IPL can often be reduced if the skin is hydrated and in balance. Also, following a medium peel or a deeper therapy such as Dermaroller, the skin will be able to heal more efficiently if the hydration levels are good.How-To-Make-A-Water-Xylophone-300x168

A top tip? If you struggle to get enough water in your day, or you find that it mostly keeps you running to the bathroom, try having a few low sugar isotonic drinks as well. These formulas are designed to deliver water with electrolytes that will help the fluid get right into the cell. That’s where it really needs to go!

5) Delay your Laser treatments if necessary…this is a safety message!

Laser energy is attracted to color or pigment in hair or skin. If you have even the slightest tan on the area where laser is being used to reduce hair, the laser heat energy will be super absorbed and may cause a burn. For this reason, it is wise to delay your next Laser treatment for just a few weeks if necessary.

Our laser therapists are not only highly trained to provide an excellent hair reduction treatment, but they are also ultimately responsible for your safety. If you are unsure how much ‘tan’ you have left, just drop by your local clinic and one of the DS skin experts will have a look and advise you. We really don’t want to waste your precious time, and an appointment can then be planned in time to ensure the tan has faded. You are safe and we are happy!

I hope that these 5 ideas have been interesting and useful for you.

Enjoy the rest of the summer and see you in September!
